Map and GPS
Use this map to identify the Jökulsárlón arrival area, not an ice-cave entrance. The local cave tours featured on this site use the lagoon as their departure area; the glacier visit continues with the operator. See an operator’s arrival instructions.
Find your bearings.
Explore the lagoon, Route 1 and the surrounding glacier region on a real map.

Where the cave is
The Crystal Ice Cave experience featured here is associated with Breiðamerkurjökull in Southeast Iceland, part of the Vatnajökull glacier system. Jökulsárlón is the lagoon in front of the glacier and a public arrival point for local excursions. The tour itinerary identifies these locations.
01 / THE ICE CAP
Vatnajökull
The wider glacier system. Its name alone is not a precise destination for your booking.
Glacier overview →02 / THE GLACIER
Breiðamerkurjökull
The glacier named in the local Crystal cave itinerary. The formation and access route can change.
About the glacier →03 / YOUR ARRIVAL
Jökulsárlón
The public lagoon area beside Route 1. Check your voucher for the exact operator position.
Lagoon guide →The lagoon pin is not the cave pin. Your operator chooses the formation according to conditions. The cave is not a permanent walk-in attraction with one entrance that this map can reliably mark. Arctic Adventures explains how cave selection changes.
Local directions
Once you reach the Jökulsárlón area, focus on the correct parking area, pedestrian access and operator sign. The lagoon and Fellsfjara beach sit on opposite sides of Route 1. National park area guide.
Find Jökulsárlón
Use the lagoon arrival reference or, preferably, the map link supplied with your booking. Do not navigate to an old pin labeled “Crystal Ice Cave.”
Follow the signs
Use the signed visitor parking off Route 1. Temporary traffic arrangements and staff instructions take priority over a saved route.
Use pedestrian access
Follow the designated paths. For the beach–lagoon connection, use the signed route under the road bridge where open, not the bridge roadway.
Locate your guide
Match the company name and check-in instructions on your voucher. Several operators leave from the same general area.
The park specifically advises visitors not to walk over the bridge and identifies pedestrian access underneath. During works or a closure, follow the route directed by park staff. Read the park’s pedestrian-access advice.
For the longer journey from Reykjavík, Vík, Skaftafell or Höfn, use How to Get There. That page covers travel planning; this one helps you identify where to arrive.
Parking areas are not interchangeable
A place to leave your car is not necessarily your tour’s check-in point. The park identifies parking at both the lagoon and the beach, and an operator may ask you to walk from an available lot to its meeting area. Lagoon and beach access.
LAGOON SIDE
Main lagoon area
The usual reference area for the local tours. A parking closure does not, by itself, mean your glacier tour is cancelled. Check the dated notice and your operator’s instructions.
Find on Google Maps ↗BEACH SIDE
Eystri-Fellsfjara
The eastern beach parking area is separate from the lagoon check-in area. Follow signs and allow time for the pedestrian connection.
Find on Google Maps ↗BEACH SIDE
Vestri-Fellsfjara
The western beach parking area is another distinct location. Confirm the approved pedestrian route with staff rather than assuming it leads directly to your guide.
Find on Google Maps ↗The names Eystri-Fellsfjara and Vestri-Fellsfjara are used in the park’s October 2026 parking notice. Map-search results are for orientation; current signs and your booking instructions take priority.
Before leaving the visitor area, locate the toilets and your check-in point. The park lists facilities at Jökulsárlón, but their position and availability can change during construction. Check the official area information rather than relying on an old parking photograph.

Tour details →A product categorized under “Höfn” or “Skaftafell” is not proof that it leaves from that town. Read the actual meeting instructions. The Reykjavík package is a different arrangement: its pickup is in Reykjavík, so passengers should follow that voucher rather than make their own way to the lagoon.
Location questions
Can you give me GPS coordinates for the cave entrance?
Not as a reliable permanent destination. This page gives a public-arrival reference at Jökulsárlón. The cave and final access route depend on the formation chosen by the operator, so an old entrance pin should not be used for independent access.
Does the map pin identify my exact guide?
No. It identifies a published reference within the lagoon arrival area. The individual tour record and your voucher tell you which vehicle, sign or gathering point to find.
Is Diamond Beach the same place as the tour departure?
No. The beach and lagoon are neighboring visitor areas, but their parking and check-in points are distinct. You may be directed to park at the beach during works and walk to your guide; confirm that arrangement with the operator.
Can I follow the public paths into the ice cave?
Do not treat the public lagoon paths as cave access. Follow the transfer and walking route arranged by your guide. The park’s public Jökulsárlón trail is a separate sightseeing walk, not a map to the current cave.
Where are the driving and transport options?
The separate How to Get There guide covers reaching this part of Iceland. Use Location and Directions for the map, the glacier’s position, the local parking areas and check-in orientation.
